You have heard of the launch of the new Google website indexing system codename Caffeine….
You know it’s going to change the way search engine results are shown….
But what will it mean to you?

In case you didn’t hear, Google has recently totally rewritten its indexing algorithms – confused already?
Basically what this means is that it’s updated the computer generated method it uses to decide which sites appear on which page of its search results – and it’s given it a new name…. Google Caffeine.
In theory, Google will now instantly add sites to its database in order to provide more relevant results to searchers.
They will do this by indexing (another way of saying scanning) the internet in smaller pieces and adding these bite size chunks to searches results so they are more up to date.
Until now it could be many months before your web site appeared in search results for keywords related to your site (the keyword “sesame street” is related to the Elmo Toy website example in the previous article).
Now Google promises new supercharged, search results providing more relevant, and up to date searches for everyone.
So far, so good…
The flip side is that Google Caffeine is likely to have a considerable impact on your web based business.
The good news is that you will no longer have to wait for new content to be available to your potential customers = your new web pages and articles will appear much quicker.
BUT your content (and website) may gradually have their search engine place pushed downwards by the arrival of new more relevant content on rival sites…
So How Does Google Caffeine Work?
It is likely that you will no longer be able to send off a batch of articles to hang around on the internet attracting visitors to your web site.
Your web site pages may not be so effective (or relevant from Google’s point of view) after a few months or less…
If you are in a fast moving market or one that is hit by regular major news you are going to be pushing your business through an avalanche of other indexed web site pages all seeking the first few pages of Google.
BUT….
Before you rush off and give it all up just think!
Whilst Google are claiming that they are indexing the internet at the incredible rate of hundreds of thousands of pages every second – there are still billions more pages out there – billions of billions in fact!
The Caffeine project will add hundreds and thousands of gigabytes of new information per day – BUT it might not be YOUR information.
Your market or niche might still be some days, weeks or months down the line.
So what do you do?
Well pretty much what you had to do beforehand, but more frequently.
If you have a profitable site or are trying to build a site’s popularity, keep your content current.
Try to add to it regularly and write more articles that have relevant keywords in them.
Learn to manage your time better and prioritse tasks that actually make you MONEY.
Due to their nature (they are often updated frequently), blogs are likely to become even more popular, so you may want to consider creating one if you haven’t already.
Remember to keep your site interesting and to regularly watch and monitor your Google search engine positions of your main keywords, using whatever SEO tools you use.
Make adjustments to your content to keep ahead of the game.
If you are in a competitive niche then make this review weekly as it is likely that Caffeine will concentrate on these areas.
You might want to tweak the content of your site so it is relevant to more search terms (but these need to be relevant to your basic site content).
This will make it easier for more people to land on your page as you are relevant to more search terms…
Whatever you do don’t panic about Google Caffeine…. and DON’T GIVE UP!
As more information becomes available about this development, new SEO tools and information will become available.
You never know, with the speed that Google works at to retain its core business model there may soon be a Caffeine update which may rewrite the rules again…
I somehow doubt the main concept will change though. Google wants search results to be up to date and relevant, so if you want to rank highly in Google search results make sure your site is, too…
